Govt to provide 40pc of its employees with housing facilities

Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain said on Wednesday that the government has planned to provide 40 percent government employees living in Dhaka with housing facilities.

Now only 7 percent government employees living in Dhaka city enjoy the facilities.

The minister came up with the announcement at a programme for the new BCS public works cadres at the conference room of the ministry. 

The minister said, “The public works department is now more dynamic than any time. Its capability and excellence has been on the rise. Earlier, the residential buildings were built up to six stories, but now it would be up to 20 stories.”

The minister informed that 1,800 families are now living in Azimpur quarters and 2,800 families in Motijheel quarters. “Master plans are being designed for two quarters; once it is completed, 20,000 employees can live in the two places,” he added.

Secretary of the ministry Md Shahid Ullah Khandaker, additional secretary Md Akhter Hossain, chief architect Kazi Golam Nasir and chairman of National Housing Authority Md Rashedul Islam attended the programme.
