Ctg, Rajshahi medical varsities get first VCs

Prof Dr Ismail Khan and Prof Dr Masum Habib have been made the first Vice Chancellors (VCs) of Chittagong Medical University and Rajshahi Medical University respectively, reports UNB.

President Abul Hamid who is the Chancellor of the universities has made the appointments. Health and Family Welfare Ministry has issued a notification in this regard on Monday.

Dr Ismail has been performing as the Principal of Dhaka Medical College and Den of Dhaka University’s Faculty of Medicine, while Dr Masum went on retirement recently as Rajshahi Medical College Principal.

In November, 2014, the government decided to upgrade the two medical colleges as the medical universities for providing better healthcare services to people and create more specialist physicians in the country.

On October 5, 2015, the cabinet gave the final approval to the draft of ‘Chittagong Medical University Act, 2015’ and ‘Rajshahi Medical University Act, 2015’.

The Chittagong Medical College (CMC) and Rajshahi Medical College (RMC) and other medical colleges in Chittagong and Rajshahi regions will be affiliated with the respective medical universities.
