Today (9 March) is the 32nd death anniversary of Umme Kulsum, mother of country’s renowned industrial conglomerate Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan.

In fond remembrance of Umme Kulsum on her death anniversary, the Bashundhara Group has taken various initiatives, including Qurankhwani, milad mahfil, distribution of food among the destitute and offering ziarat at the graveyard.

She (Umme Kulsum) was an ideal housewife. Her husband Alhaj Abdus Sobhan had been engaged in legal profession for around 50 years. The couple had been blessed with two sons and four daughters.

Her eldest son, Abdus Sadek, is a noted sportsman while the youngest son, Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, is a renowned industrialist.

Her children and grandchildren have been contributing immensely for the socio-economic development of the country.

Umme Kulsum was born in Pahariakandi village under Banchharampur Upazila of Brahmanbaria in 1920. Besides caring for her husband, she made every effort to raise the children properly.

She was motherly, simple and ever-smiling and one of her best attributes was to show much care and equitable treatment to everybody. In her personal life, she was religious and benevolent.
