Bangladesh media delegation wraps up India tour at Guwahati

Bangladesh media delegation has concluded its week-long visit to India with a series of meetings in multiple cities as part of the "Familiarisation Programme."

The Ministry of External Affairs, India hosted the programme for the 20-member media delegation from July 14 to 21. 

The media delegation returned home on Thursday night. 

Bangladesh and India eye further strengthening the socio-economic and cultural ties between the two friendly countries. 

The team during the first leg of their journey visited New Delhi followed by a trip to Ooty and concluded by calling upon Assam on a two-day visit before their onwards journey to Dhaka.

On the first day of the visit in Guwahati, the team led by Chief News Editor, Independent TV, Asish Ghosh Saikat met the Director of IIT Guwahati, Dr. T.G. Sitharam wherein various matters related to technical education, drone technology, flood mitigation amongst others were discussed. 

The team also explored the campus and the laboratories where they had engaging sessions with the students as well faculty members. 

An informative session was held with the team by Executive Director, Wasbir Hussain of the Centre for Development and Peace Studies during the team’s visit. 

The team was accorded a warm welcome at the Numaligarh Refinery Limited, Guwahati by Managing Director, Bhakar Jyoti Phukan.

The official tour concluded with the team calling upon Minister for Environment & Forests and Act East Policy Affairs Chandra Mohan Patowary and Chief Secretary, Jishnu Barua at Janata Bhawan, Dispur.

During the hour-long meeting, Minister Patowary highlighted about the continued efforts which are being undertaken under the leadership of Chief Minister Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma to strengthen the rail and air connectivity between Assam and Dhaka. 

Also present during the meeting was Commissioner and Secretary, IPRD, Diganta Barah. 

The team was accompanied by Publicity Officer, Pawan Kumar (XLM), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India and Press Officer, High Commission of India, Dhaka, Vaibhav Sunil Gondane.

On the side-lines of this visit, the team took a tour of Kamakya Temple and Dr Bhupen Hazarika Samadhi Khetra.
