Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder on Monday said rice will be imported privately from abroad to keep the rice market stable.
The Food Planning and Monitoring Committee, a cabinet-level committee headed by the Ministry of Food, has taken the decision.
The resolution of the meeting will be sent soon to the prime minister for approval, he said.
Mentioning that discussions were held so that rice can be imported duty free, he said that final decision in this regard will come from the prime minister.
