Women kabaddi camp begins

A 33-member preliminary squad of the Bangladesh national women’s kabaddi team started a year-long preparation camp for the upcoming Asian Games 2022 at the Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation premises on Sunday.

The Games is scheduled to be held from September 10-25 in Hangzhou, China.

Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation called up the best players from the three top teams of recently-concluded Bangabandhu Bangladesh Games for the squad -- 10 players from defending champions Ansar, 14 players from runners-up Police and 9 players from third-placed Narail.

The national kabaddi team last played in the South Asian Games 2019 in Nepal. Four players -- Rupali, Shraboni, Tuktuki and Disha Moni -- have been excluded from the squad while captain Shahnaz Parvin Maleka retired from the national team.

“We aim to earn medals in Asian Games. So we started our long-term preparation camps (men and women). The committee has taken several initiatives for the development of kabaddi, this camp is part of those,” Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation general secretary and Dhaka Range DIG Habibur Rahman told the media on Sunday.
