Eminent educationist and former Professor of Rajshahi University Abdus Salam passed away at Khwaja Yunus Ali Medical College and Hospital in Sirajganj at 10.30 pm on Tuesday at the age of 72.
He is survived by his wife, two sons and a large number of students, academic colleagues and host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death, a RU release said.
Besides, he has a remarkable number of research papers at home and abroad to his credit.
Born in Murshidabad district in India's West Bengal in 1949, Prof Abdus Salam obtained B.Sc and M.Sc degrees from Rajshahi University and got PhD degree from Moscow University in Russia in 1984.
His namaz-e-janaza was held at Darikharbona Jam-e Mosque and he was laid to eternal rest at Darikharbona graveyard in Rajshahi city after Johr prayers.
Meanwhile, RU VC-in-Charge Prof Sultan-Ul Islam and Pro-VC Prof Chowdhury Jakaria expressed deep condolence at the death of Prof Abdus Salam and conveyed sympathy to the members of the bereaved family.
They also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.
