Man hacks aunt to death not to pay borrowed money in Joypurhat

A Joypurhat Sadar upazila man on Thursday brutally killed her aunt as she wanted to get her money back.

Police arrested Rakibul Islam Titu, 31, for murdering his aunt Masuma Khatun, 52.

“Masuma and Titu locked in a heated debate when the 52-year-old woman went to get her money back. At one stage, Titu hacked his aunt with a machete, leaving her critically injured,” Habibur Rahman Habib, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Joypurhat Sadar Police Station, said.

The neighbours, who rushed to the scene hearing Masuma screaming in pain, found her in a pool of blood.

The 52-year-old was declared dead when she was rushed to Joypurhat Modern District Hospital in a critical condition.

Titu wanted to take to his heels following the incident. But the villagers caught the 31-year-old and handed him over to police.

The victim’s daughter Beauty filed a murder case with Joypurhat Sadar Police Station.
