Amu urges development of local industries

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Monday said the government will continue its support to local entrepreneurs to develop their industries as well as to promote the country’s economy, reports UNB.

“At any cost, domestic industries must be advanced. So, we will provide all-out support to the local entrepreneurs,” he told a function during his visit to Runner Automobile Factory at Bhaluka in Mymensingh.

The Industries Minister said employment has been generated in many countries of the world through expansion of industries and Bangladesh should follow suit.

“Stopping import of goods, we should establish factories and industries more,” he said.

He said there is a big market in the country, but it still depends on import. “If we promote local investment, big industries will be established here,” he added.

Amu said the government has set a vision to turn Bangladesh into a middle-income country by 2021 and if industrialisation continues, the vision will be achieved within the stipulated period.

Local MP Prof M Amanullah, Runner Group chairman Hafizur Rahman and its managing director Brig Gen (retd) M Shafiquzzaman were, among others, present at the function.
