Teenage boy beaten dead for ransom in Savar

A 13-year-old boy was reportedly beaten to death and another teenager injured by criminals for ransom in Mozarmail area of Ashulia in Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka.

The deceased was identified as Sabuj Mia, a student of class v at a local Madrasa, son of Mishir Ali, hailing from Kazi Coloni village in Sadar upazila of Lalmonirhat.

The injured is identified as Jahidul, from the same area.

Police said Sabuj and his friend Jahidul Islam went out from their home on Monday evening to visit sister’s house in Mozarmail of Ashulia. They were staying at the Mozarmail bus stand as they could not find out the sister’s house in the evening.

Some youths, who were staying at the bus stand area, took them to an isolated place. Later in the night, they tied them up and sent messages to their guardians demanding Tk20,000 as ransom.

As there was no response from the guardians, they beat them mercilessly leaving Sabuj dead on the spot and Jahidul critically injured. The criminals threw them in a nearby ditch and fled away the scene.

On Tuesday noon, police recovered the body of Sabuj and sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital morgue for an autopsy, said Md Samiul Islam, sub-inspector of Ashulia Police Station.

A process is underway to file a case in this connection, he said.
