Railway returns to normal operation today

Bangladesh Railway has started hundred percent passenger transport on train after suspending its operation for six months since March 24 due to the novel coronavirus outbreak.

“All the railway coaches are carrying hundred percent passengers and started its journey to different destinations since this morning amid maintaining strictly the corona health guidelines”, senior Railway official Shariful Alam told journalists on Wednesday.

The passenger train operation—sixteen intercity trains resumed its operation in first phase on May 31–throughout the country was halted from March 24 because of corona virus pandemic.

Fifty percent railway tickets are being sold through online and the rest from the counter, but no standing tickets are being sold aiming to reduce further COVID-19 infection.

During the corona pandemic, fifty percent tickets of the total seat capacity were sold to the passengers on the spot by maintaining physical distance which earlier were sold through online.

Later, only twenty-five percent tickets now are being sold through counter since September 12 and the rest twenty-five percent through mobile apps and online, the official added.
