Nasrul stresses energy-efficient appliances

Consumers need to be encouraged to use quality and energy efficient electrical appliances, said State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid on Saturday.

He said this at a virtual function to inaugurate installation of smart pre-paid meters in Narail district on the initiative of West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited (WZPDCL), says a press release.

Nasrul Hamid said that excessive power consumption beyond the permitted load should be avoided. Assistance of power offices may be sought if necessary to ensure electrical safety and to avoid electrical accidents.


The state minister also directed the officials for presenting the benefits of smart pre-paid meters to the customers.

Smart pre-paid meter users will be able to avail electricity usage according to the family budget, he said, adding that monthly bill payment is also very easy.

At present, WZPDCL has 15,800 electricity subscribers and will initially install 9,998 smart pre-paid meters in Narail.

Upon installing the smart pre-paid meters, consumers will enjoy benefits such as availing emergency balance up to Tk 100 if the meter balance runs out, customers will get one percent rebate on net electricity bill.

Narail Deputy Commissioner Anjuman Ara presided over the function.

Power Secretary Dr Sultan Ahmed, Lawmaker of Narail-2 Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Managing Director of WZPDCL Md Shafiq Uddin, among others, spoke on the occasion.
