Another member of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) died of coronavirus in the capital on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Inspector Raju Ahmed, of Chandpur.He was posted at the DMP's Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, said Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police Headquarters (Media) Md Sohel Rana.
Raju breathed his last at around 10:30am at Central Police Hospital in Rajarbagh in the capital, said sources at the DMP, adding that the policeman was confirmed with COVID-19 on May 3.
With the death of Raju, a total of 13 policemen in the country have died from coronavirus.
According to sources at Police Headquarters, the total number of coronavirus-infected police members was 3,574 until Saturday.
Among them, 1,277 are from DMP, the sources said.
Bangladesh’s confirmed coronavirus cases rose to 32,078 on Saturday with the detection of 1,873 more new cases in the span of 24 hours.Besides, the virus claimed 20 more lives during the same period, raising the coronavirus death toll in the country to 452.
