'Robber' killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Magnamaghat area of Pekua upazila in Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Kamal Hossain.

Major Mehedi Hasan, company commander of Cox's Bazar RAB-1, said tipped off that a group of robbers were preparing to commit a robbery in the area, members of the elite force went there to conduct a drive.

Sensing their presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on them forcing them to fire back in self defence, triggering a gunfight, he said.

After the skirmish, members of RAB recovered the body of Kamal from the spot and sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy, he added.

RAB also recovered four shutter guns, 12 rounds of bullets and seven rounds of cartridges from the spot, Mehedi said.
