4-Day Eid Holidays: Road crashes kill at least 91

Some 91 people have lost their lives in four days during the Eid-ul-Azha vacation, according to a statistics.

On an average 22 people died every day in the road accidents.

A survey of Accident Research Institute (ARI) of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) said 90 percent accidents in the roads are caused due to reckless speeding. Being pressurized by vehicle owners, drivers appear in competition for extra trip of 15 days marking the Eid. Under this circumstance, drivers drive their vehicles irresponsibly.         

ARI said some 15 people lost their lives in 15 days during the Eid-ul-Azha vacation in 2016 while on an average 13 people died every day during the Eid holidays in 2017.    

According to highway police and local witnesses, excessive speeding was the main reason of most of the road crashes.
