Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Atiqul Islam urged the authorities concerned not to allow rickshaws on the main roads in the capital to bring discipline on the roads.
He came up with the call after a view exchange meeting with law enforcers and Rickshaw owners’ cooperative at the city Bhaban in Gulshan on Saturday.Mayor Atiqul Islam said, “Our city was being operated manually. Now, the country is being developed, cities are being developed too. The size of population has also been increased. So, we have to shift to mechanical system. Manual and mechanical system cannot go together in main roads.”
“We are not evicting rickshaws from the city. We are just saying that our main roads will be freed from rickshaws to lessen vulnerability to accidents. Some quarters are active to spread rumours. We also declared to ban plying of illegal rickshaws," Atiqul Islam said.
