The demonstrating hawkers in the capital have suspended their sit-in programme for the day on Tuesday afternoon but they will continue it from Wednesday morning.
At around 5:00pm, Abul Hossain Sumon, on behalf of Bangladesh Hawkers Union, declared the suspension of their protest programme to press their demand of carrying on business on the footpaths until proper rehabilitation programmes.“We ended our demonstration for today in honour of the fasting Muslims of the city. But we will take the streets tomorrow (Wednesday) again,” Abul Hossain Sumon told.
Earlier, Mazharul Islam and Bashar, Petrol Ispectors of Shahbagh Police Station urged protesting hawkers to leave the roads.
Hawkers of Dhaka city started their sit-in programme by blocking the streets in Gulistan area in the capital on Tuesday morning that triggers a huge gridlocked in Gulistan and the adjacent areas.
Hundreds of buses, CNG auto rickshaws, motorbikes, rickshaws came to a standstill due to hawkers’ sit-in programme on the streets.
The people, using the roads of Gulistan area, experienced serious suffering on the first day of the Holy Ramadan and were forced to reach their destination on foot under the brunt of acute sunshine.
Hawkers started protest programme in front of the Nagar Bhaban of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) around 11:00am.Later, they blocked the North South Road adjacent to Golap Shah Mazar.
