Foreign journalists visit East West Media Group Ltd outlets

A delegation of 50-member journalists of globally renowned print and electronic media visited the outlets of East West Media Group Ltd (EWMGL) at Bashundhara Residential Area in the capital on Monday.

They recently came to Bangladesh following an invitation of the government to be acquainted with tradition and culture.

 Foreign journalists attended an exchange of view meeting with the editors and senior journalists of the media outlets of EWMGL, a concern of country’s leading business conglomerate Bashundhara Group.

Speaking on the occasion, Naim Nizam, editor of Bangladesh Pratidin, said print media is facing a great challenge due to recently-boomed digital and electronic media.

He made the observation during an interaction with the foreign journalists at EWMGL conference room at the media complex at Bashundhara Residential Area around 12:00pm.

Samia Rahman, Associate Professor of Mass Communication and Journalism Department of Dhaka University and NEWS24 head of current affairs, said mainstream media is exposed to a great challenge due to peoples’ easy access to internet and social media. However, she hoped that mainstream media will survive for its authentic news and verified information which are absent in the social media.

Echoing view of others, Nadeem Qadir, consulting editor of Daily Sun, said social media is devoid of credible information and it can no longer compete with mainstream media.”

The foreign delegation team consists of 50 journalists of print and electronic media form different countries including USA, Germany, Turkey, Hong Kong, South Korea, Brazil, Nepal, and Bhutan.

Presided over by Naim Nizam, the view of exchange meeting was attended by Kaler Kantho editor Emdadul Haque Milon, Daily Sun editor Enamul Hoque Chowdhury, Kaler Kantho executive editor Mostafa Kamal, and Banglanews24 editor Jewel Mazhar and NEWS24 TV executive director Hasnain Khorshed.
