Newly elected vice-president (VP) of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) Nurul Huq Nur expressed his solidarity with the students who were staging protests on Tuesday to press their eight-point demand after the death of private university student Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury.

Nur visited the accident scene in Nardda of the capital in the afternoon and came up with statement.

He has warned of retaliation if any attack is carried out on the students demanding road safety.

A bus of Suprovat Paribahan killed Abrar while he was crossing a road of Pragoti Sarani through a zebra crossing around 7:30 am to go to his university, Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), located at Mirpur-12.

After his death, hundreds of students of BUP and other private universities took to the street and chanted slogans demanding punishment for those responsible for the death of Abrar.

Around 4:45 pm, VP Nur along with others reached the spot in Nardda.

He said, “The students of Dhaka University (DU) have expressed their solidarity with demonstrating students. Earlier, attacks were carried out on the quota reformists and the students who launched movement demanding safe road. The students will have to be vigilant. Vested interests are trying to foil the peaceful movement.”
