Traffic movement on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in the city's Uttara area was halted due to the snap of a gas pipeline during development works on Friday night causing immense sufferings to the city dwellers.
The gas pipeline was snapped near the main road in front of Uttara House Building around 9:15 pm, said Ataur Rahman, duty officer at Fire Service and Civil Defence control room.
The pipeline was blasted with a big bang and gas was whizzing out from multiple points with loud noises.
As a result, huge tailbacks were created on both sides of the road during filling of this report around 12:05 am.
Firefighters were in a cautious position and kept standby to avoid any more untoward situation, said Ataur adding that the traffics were getting passed through diversion roads.
