Awami League presidium member and Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury on Tuesday said there was no difference between the militant attackers of the Holey Artisan Bakery at the city's Gulshan and the killers of the August 15 carnage of 1975.
Begum Matia Chowdhury said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion and doa mahfil organised by Mahila Awami League in front of party central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city marking the 86th birth anniversary of Bangamata Begum Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib.
Vice-president of Mahila Awami League Safia Khatun presided over the discussion, also addressed, among others, by Awami League (AL) joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, party presidium member Advocate Sahara Khatun, women's affairs secretary Fazilatunnessa Indira, Dhaka City South AL general secretary Shahe Alam Murad, Dhaka City North AL general secretary Sadek Khan and Mahila Awami League general secretary Pinu Khan.
For this reason, she said, "Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman did not become perplexed going near to the noose. On the other hand, Begum Mujib looked after the leaders-workers of Awami League in absence of Bangabandhu and alongside, she also discharged duties properly in rearing her children."
Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said the BNP-Jamaat combine are involved in conspiracies to make a confederation with Pakistan pushing Bangladesh into a failed state and as part of its conspiracy it has been habouring and patronising militancy.
The AL leader said the evil force, which has been nurturing and patronising the militancy, should be uprooted from the soil of Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
