Md Mahfuzar Rahman, director of the Bangladesh Public Procurement Authority (BPPA), has emphasised the importance of timely and effective implementation of development projects to avoid wastage of substantial public funds.
He made these remarks while addressing a workshop as the chief guest in Bhola on Sunday. The event focused on BPPA activities and shared experiences relating to the electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) system.

“Currently, around US$30 billion is spent annually on public procurement in Bangladesh. To avoid wastage of such a significant amount, the government is placing strong emphasis on the proper and timely execution of various projects. On average, some 1,500 projects are included in the Annual Development Programme (ADP) each year. If these projects achieve their intended goals, the impact on the national economy will be substantial,” he said.

The workshop was chaired by Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Md Azad Jahan and held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office. Organised by BPPA and facilitated by the Bangladesh Centre for Communication Programmes (BCCP), the event was attended by representatives from local procuring entities, banks, tenderers, journalists, and BCCP officials.
