Allegation has been raised against the capital’s Islami Bank Hospital and Cardiac Center that a patient died there due to the negligence of doctors and mismanagement of the hospital authorities.
Nadia Noor (30), a banker, was undergoing treatment in the hospital since Saturday morning due to diarrhea disease, according to Nadia’s husband Anisur Rahman Palash.
Nadia, who was also pregnant for 16 weeks, breathed her last on early Wednesday as doctors had shown extreme negligence for her treatment, Anisur claimed.
He said that her wife was admitted to the Mirpur-based hospital on Saturday morning as she was suffering diarrhea from Friday night. Later, her physical condition improved, but she suffered a cardiac arrest on Sunday night.
“My wife was suffering from pain. But calling from 11pm to 2am, I could not get any doctor. A doctor came after 2am, but by that time, the patient’s physical condition deteriorated. Then Nadia was taken to the ICU. At that time, I decided to take her to another hospital by ICU ambulance, but the hospital authorities did not cooperate,” he added.
Anisur Rahman further said, “Refusing my transfer request, the duty doctors kept the patient in the ICU without taking any action, and I was not allowed to enter the room that time. Due to their negligence, several organs of Nadia started to fail, and finally she breathed her last on Wednesday morning.”
The negligence and mismanagement of the doctors pushed my wife to death step by step, he said, demanding justice over the incident.
When asked about the complaint of negligence, the hospital owner Dr Chibgatur Rahman said the director of the cardiac centre could speak well in this regard.
Brigadier General (Ret) Md Shahidul Islam, director for cardiac centre of the hospital, however, could not be reached over mobile phone for a comment.
