All secondary schools, colleges, madrasahs, and technical educational institutions will remain closed today in 25 districts including Dhaka as the ongoing heat wave is yet to subside in many parts of the country.
The educational activities in the remaining 39 districts, however, will remain normal as the heat has subsided there, said a media release issued by the Ministry of Education on Friday.
The decision was made based on the forecast of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the press statement read.
According to the notice, educational institutions in all districts of Khulna and Rajshahi divisions, Dhaka and Tangail districts under Dhaka division, Chandpur in Chattogram division,
and Rangpur, Kurigram, Nilphamari, and Dinajpur districts under Rangpur division will remain closed on Saturday.
The education ministry on Thursday had issued a notice saying all secondary level educational institutions that remained closed for countrywide amid heat waves would reopen on Saturday.
After Eid-ul-Fitr and Pahela Baishakh holidays, schools and colleges were slated to reopen on 21 April but the closure was extended till 27 April due to a scorching heat wave sweeping across the country.
Although classes resumed on 28 April there was no remarkable change in the heat wave conditions.
That time, two school teachers died from heatstroke in two districts of the country due to sweltering heat, worrying the guardians, especially those of primary level students.
The authorities, later, extended the closure of primary and secondary level educational intuitions till 2 May following a High Court order to keep those shut.
With educational institutions reopening this week, the education ministry has decided to keep classrooms open on Saturday too, though it is a holiday, to minimise the learning gap of the pupils.
All government primary schools would reopen on Sunday, said Mahbubur Rahman Tuhin, senior information officer of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.
