Noted Rabindra Sangeet exponent Sadi Mohammad was laid to rest at the Mohammadpur Jame Masjid Complex Graveyard in the capital on Thursday. His burial took place after his namaz-e-janaza after Zuhr prayers.
The Tagore singer passed away on Wednesday. Sadi Mohammad’s body was found hanging in his residence in Mohammadpur. He was 69.  
His brother and renowned dance artiste Shibli Mohammad said that Sadi was practicing music with his Tanpura in a room in the Mohammadpur residence Wednesday evening. Suddenly, Shibli noticed that the door of the room was closed. After breaking open the door, he found the singer’s hanging body from a ceiling fan.
Shibli also mentioned that Sadi had been suffering mental trauma after their mother, Jebunnessa Salimullah, died in July 2023.
Sadi Mohammad, known for his soulful renditions of Rabindra Sangeet, had also served as the director of the esteemed cultural organisation, Rabi Raag.

He completed his bachelor’s and master’s in Rabindra Sangeet from the Visva-Bharati University.
In 2007, Sadi Mohammad debuted as a music composer when he released the album “Amakey Khujey Pabey Bhorer Shishirey”. He released the albums “Srabon Akashey” in 2009 and “Sharthok Janom Amar” in 2012.
During the Liberation War, the anti-independence forces assassinated his father Salimullah. Salimullah Road in the capital’s Mohammadpur, is named after his father.
His death has cast a grim shadow on the country’s cultural arena.
