Renowned Rabindra Sangeet singer Sadi Mohammad passed away on Wednesday at the age of 70.

He is believed to have committed suicide as his body was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his residence in Mohammadpur, Dhaka, family sources said.

Family sources said that Sadi was practicing music with his Tanpura at a room in the Mohammadpur residence Wednesday evening. Suddenly, his brother Shibli Mohammad noticed the door of the room was closed. After breaking open the door, Shibli found the singer's lifeless body hanging.

Sadi Mohammad served as the director of the cultural organisation Rabi Raag.

Sadi Mohammad pursued higher studies in Rabindra Sangeet at Visva-Bharati University in India. He is the son of Liberation War martyr Salimullah and Jebunnesa Salimullah.

His body was taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
