State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak has directed Teletalk Bangladesh to conduct an independent audit immediately to assess its strength and weakness.
“We want to know the top five areas of Teletalk's earnings and expenses in the last one year,” he said at a meeting with the state-run mobile network operator at its head office in Dhaka on Wednesday.
“As a limited company, the operator should find out the growth point. Teletalk must conduct technical and financial audits to find out wounds inside it on priority basis,” Palak said.
The state minister directly went to the Teletalk head office instead of setting a meeting ahead to see for himself the “real scenario” of the operator.
Prior to the meeting, he sent 13 questions to Teletalk managing director Habibur Rahman to explore the structural strength of the cellular company.
“Teletalk has to reach its growth stage within June 30 (2024) at any cost. I need technical and financial reports with classified data on different indicators,” Palak said.
He emphasised, “The management should take a zero-tolerance approach with instant hiring and firing in regards to human resources.”
The junior minister also expressed his dismay over the usage of the fifth generation spectrum of Teletalk.
He said, “People once used to wait in line to purchase (Teletalk) SIM cards. Teletalk got 3G and 5G spectrums on priority basis. The state-run operator should move forward with the special facilities given to it.”
Only 6.46 million users are connected with the Teletalk network out of a total number of 190.36 million of four mobile network operators in the country.
