Around 400 hundred rickshaw pullers carried out attacks on four traffic police boxes in the capital’s Dhanmondi and Mohammad areas on Tuesday afternoon.
Two policemen sustained injuries in the attack, confirmed Abu Taleb, assistant commissioner (Traffic-Dhanmondi Zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
He said that police opposed them to ply their auto rickshaws on the main road.
As a result, they gathered and carried out an attack at the police box in Satmosjid Road intersection at around 4:30pm, he said.
Police detained four attackers, confirmed Officer-in-Charge of Dhanmondi Police Station Parvez Islam.
But no comments of the rickshaw pullers could be obtained.
Earlier on 18 December last year, a good number of auto rickshaw pullers attacked another traffic police box for opposing them of plying their vehicles and on charge of harassment on Embankment Road in Mohammadpur.
They also vandalised a number of motorcycles there.
