CHATTOGRAM: Hathazari Madrasha Director General and Hefazat-e-Islam Senior Nayeb-e-Ameer Mawlana Md Yahia passed away at a private hospital in the capital on Saturday early hours.
Yahia, 77, had been suffering from liver cancer for long, said his Personal Assistant (PA) Mawlana Habib Anwar.
He breathed his last at the hospital around 1:30am while undergoing treatment, said Habib.
Mawlana Yahia was supposed to be laid to eternal rest after Namaz-e-Janaza after Maghrib prayer at the premises of Al Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Moinul Islam Madrasa, also known as Hathazari Madrasha, on Saturday evening.
He left behind three sons, four daughters, a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.
He was also the vice president of Befaqul Madarisil Arabia Bangladesh and president of Khatme Nabuwt Andolon Bangladesh.
Mentionable, Mawlana Yahia was teaching at the Madrasha for almost three decades.
Salam died hours after he was made DG following death of the previous DG and Hefazat-e-Islam founding Ameer Allama Ahmed Shafi on September 18 of 2020.
