Theater troupe Prachyanat will stage their new in-house play ‘A Mother in Manville’ at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in the capital today. The two shows of the play will be staged at 6:00pm and 7:30pm.

Based on the short story of American writer Marjorie Keenan Rawlings, the play has been dramatised by Md. Shawkat Hossain Sajib and directed by Farhad Hamid. Prachyanat in-house is a rehearsal room-based theatre practice, where members of the group do experimental work.

‘A Mother in Mannville’ is a heart-touching short story, exploring love, sacrifice and the importance of human connections. The story revolves around Jerry, a orphan boy and a writer. Jerry is a skilled and hardworking boy who lives in an orphanage. In addition, the writer visits the guest house of the orphanage for a few days to write her biography.

As the story progresses it is seen that these two characters come closer. Jerry also feels lonely and craves a mother’s love, which happens in his imagination. On the other hand, the writer is trying to start a new life. At one point in the play, a new connection is discovered between the writer and Jerry.
