A Bangladesh Cricket Board official said on Monday that Mahmudullah’s decision of skipping the ODI series against Afghanistan to perform Hajj won’t make any impact as far as his getting a chance in the World Cup squad is concerned.

“Riyad (Mahmudullah) has told us that he is going to Hajj and he will be there from June 22 to July 5. He will join the camp later after Hajj. He can’t play the ODIs as the opening game of the series is scheduled on July 5,” BCB’s Cricket Operation Chairman Jalal Yunus told reporters in Mirpur.

“This is a very sensitive issue. He is going to perform Hajj and everyone must remember that it is mandatory (for every Muslim) and everyone should support him. I don’t think his decision (of skipping the Afghanistan ODI series) will be a problem as far as his selection of the World Cup is concerned,” he added. Mahmudullah has already retired from Test cricket while he hasn’t been considered either in T20Is or ODIs for quite some time.
