Only peace can ensure development

Only peace can ensure development

It is above all debates and controversies that a peaceful political and social environment is the first and foremost precondition for socio-economic development – be that at the level of an individual country, a region or the world as a whole. It has been proved to be true thousands of times throughout the entire human history but yet we have to come to the issue again and again because peace is violated every now and then and peace is the first casualty in an arena of conflicting interests. So, we have to strive hard to ensure a sustainable peaceful environment for the wellbeing of mankind.

Bangladesh reached the present level of development due mainly to the existence of a peaceful political environment over a significant part of the country’s history, especially over the period during which the Awami League government under the prudent leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ruled the country and dedicated all its efforts for the wellbeing of the people continuously for almost one and a half decades. Had it been that such a peaceful political atmosphere prevailed during the entire period of the country’s independence, people’s achievement in changing their lot would have been far greater than this. Similarly, if a peaceful situation free from wars and conflicts prevailed in the world, no one would have to suffer from hunger and poverty.

It is because of the indispensability of peace and tranquility for development that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid utmost emphasis on ensuring a peaceful environment both in the country and the world as a whole. There is hardly any force or individual in Bangladesh, other than a handful of traitors or anti-state elements, that does not want further socio-economic growth of the country. We should therefore close our ranks together and make concerted efforts for maintaining peace and tranquility and taking the country’s development to an even higher level. If not, the ultimate objective of our hard earned independence will remain a chimera.
