CHAPAINAWABGANJ: A leader of Swechchhasebak League tied to ruling Awami League (AL) was stabbed to death in an attack allegedly by miscreants in Sadar upazila of Chapainawabganj on Wednesday evening, reports UNB.
Khairul Alam Jem, 50, was a member of the district unit Swechchhasebak League and former councillor of the Ward No. 9 of Shibganj municipality. Police and locals said the victim went out of the house to buy Iftar food at Udoyan Morr in the Sadar upazila around 6pm.
A group of miscreants numbering five to six stabbed him with sharp weapons leaving him critically injured, they said.
He was rushed to the district’s main hospital where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment around 7pm, said Dr Munira Khatun, a physician at the emergency department of the hospital.
There were marks of injuries from sharp weapons on the body, the physician said adding that an autopsy will be done.
Sajjad Hossaain, officer-in-charge of Sadar police station, confirmed the incident, saying that legal actions will be taken in this connection after investigation.
