CHATTOGRAM: Mystery shrouds death of an apprentice lawyer in the port city.
Though wife of the deceased claimed the death as suicide, his family members alleged that he was straggled.
The deceased was identified as Md Mamun, 26, son of Jamal Uddin of Osman Chowdhury Para under Chakaria upazila in Cox’s Bazar district.
Sources said Mamun graduated in law from BGC Trust University and had been working as apprentice lawyer at Chattogram Court.
He had been living with his wife at a flat in the city’s DC Road area, they said.
Mamun was rushed to a private clinic where doctors declared him dead at around 1:00am.
The body was kept at the Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, said the sources.
Officer in-Charge (OC) Manjur Kader of Chawk Bazar Police Station said Mamun’s wife claimed that he committed suicide hanging from ceiling fan at their residence.
But, his relatives alleged that he was strangled, said the OC.
“In the inquest, we found marks of injury on the body,” said the OC adding that they picked his wife for interrogation.
Filing of a case in this connection was under process, he said.
