Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two men with 27 gold bars worth around Tk 2.56 crore in Jhenaidah along the border with India on Thursday, reports UNB.
The arrestees were identified as Md Ruhul Amin, 32, son of Md Monowar Hossain and Md Saiful Islam, 26, son of Md Abdus Salam. Both are residents of Kadirkol village of Kaliganj upazila under Jhenaidah district.
According to a media release signed by Lieutenant Colonel Masud Parvez Rana, captain at Maheshpur Battalion (58 BGB), said that they came to know that a consignment of gold would be smuggled to India from Bangladesh through Maheshpur border.
A BGB team detained the two when they were heading towards the border by a motorcycle, it said, adding that the gold bars weighting around 3.139 kilograms were recovered from their possession later.
The seized gold bars would be deposited to the authorities concerned at Jhenaidah, it said.
