Bowlers shine on opening day of Women’s BCL

Salma Khatun and Fahima Khatun starred with the ball as Team Padma bowled Team Jamuna all out for 155 runs in the first innings on the opening day of the inaugural Bangladesh Women’s Cricket League 2022-23 at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna on Thursday.

Salma claimed 4-34 while Fahima took 3-18 as they wrapped up Team Jamuna’s innings in 66 overs after they won the toss and elected to bowl first in the two-day match.

Sobhana Mostary made the highest 49 off 135 balls while Sultana Khatun remained not out on 38 runs for Team Jamuna. Team Jamuna’s Shanjida Akther Maghla then claimed 4-23 as they reduced Team Padma to 112-7 at stumps of day one. Team Padma is still trailing their opponents by 43 runs with three wickets in their hands.

Sathi Rani Bormon and Ritu Moni made 43 and 40 runs respectively for Team Jamuna.

Earlier on the day, BCB Women’s Wing Chairman Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel inaugurated the maiden edition of Women’s BCL in Khulna. This is the first-ever two-day women’s domestic tournament in Bangladesh. Team Meghna are the other team in the three-team competition.
