Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited, Legends of Rupganj and Prime Bank Cricket Club continued their impressive run in the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2022-23 as they won their respective fourth round matches at three different venues in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Reigning champions Sheikh Jamal defeated Brothers Union Limited by 11 runs in the D/L method at the BKSP-4 ground while Ruganj beat Shinepukur Cricket Club by three wickets at the BKSP-3 ground and Prime Bank clinched a seven-wicket win over Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited in Fatullah.
Pacer Mehedi Hasan and spinner Saqlain Sajib took three wickets each for Brothers Union.
Brothers Union, which were given a revised target of 207 runs in 29 overs after a rain interruption, then could make 195 runs in 27.4 overs and suffered their fourth consecutive defeat in the tournament.
Sabbir Hossain and Zahiduzzaman scored 54 and 53 runs respectively for Brothers Union while Ziaur Rahman finished with 4-29 for Sheikh Jamal.
Meanwhile, at the BKSP-3 ground, Rupganj’s Indian recruit Chirag Jani demonstrated a brilliant all-round performance to help his side clinch fourth successive win in the tournament.
Chirag took 4-37 to help his side bowl Shinepukur all out for 207 runs in 47.3 overs after they opted to bat first before he made 42 off 49 balls to guide Rupganj to chase down the revised target of 168 runs with seven balls to spare.
In the day’s other match, Tamim Iqbal struck a scintillating unbeaten knock of 109 off 156 balls to guide Prime Bank to their fourth win in the tournament.
Tamim, who came into the match after playing the third and final ODI against Ireland on the previous night, smashed 12 fours in his innings while Mushfiqur Rahim (39 not out) and Mohammad Mithun (31) also played their parts as Prime Bank reached 202-3 in 42.1 overs to complete an easy win.
Earlier, Nasir Hossain claimed 3-29 while Rubel Hossain and Rejaur Rahman Raza took two wickets each as they bowled Mohammedan all out for just 199 runs in 42 overs after they opted to field first.
Mahidul Islam Ankon made the highest 41 runs for Mohammedan. It was Mohammedan’s third defeat in the tournament and they could earn only one point from their first four games.
Meanwhile in today’s matches, Abahani Limited will take on Gazi Group Cricketers at the BKSP-3 ground, Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club will face Dhaka Leopards in Fatullah and City Club will face Agrani Bank Cricket Club at the BKSP-4 ground.
