The major opposition BNP hosted an iftar party for orphan students and alem-ulema (Islamic scholars) on the first day of Ramadan on Friday.

The programme was held in the city’s Ladies Club where over one hundred orphans and some alem-ulema attended.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and standing committee members received guests and exchanged pleasantries with them.

Khaleda used to take iftar with orphans and alem-ulema on the first day of Ramadan every year.

The chair of the chief guest was kept vacant, as Khaleda is now staying at her Gulshan residence.

Prior to the party, a munajat was offered seeking Khaleda’s early recovery and her release from jail.

Among others BNP standing committee members Mirza Abbas, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan and Amir Khashru Mahmud Chowdhury were present on the occasion.
