‘World Puppetry Day’ celebrated

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) celebrated ‘Jatiya Putul Natya Utsab’ (World Puppetry Day) on Tuesday. The day-long

event featured discussion, award-giving ceremony and puppet shows.

The main programme of ‘Jatiya Putul Natya Utsab’ was held at Natyashala Experimental Theatre Hall in the evening. State Minister of Cultural Affairs K. M. Khalid was present at the programme as the chief guest with BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky in the chair.

After the discussion, puppetry artistes Kajli Begum, Bhanu Chandra Barman, Kiriti Ranjan Biswas and Professor Dr. Rashid Harun

were honoured.

Earlier, different puppet shows were exhibited from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the school level. There was a workshop on puppetry for children at Natyashala of BSA at 3:00pm instructed by ‪Saiful Islam Journal.

There were also puppet shows exhibited by Jolputul Puppets and Kaktarua Puppet Theatre.

Every year on March 21, World Puppetry Day seeks to recognise puppetry as a global art form. It’s also a day to honour puppeteers around the world.
