Police arrested another mastermind involved in robbing Dutch-Bangla Bank and recovered Tk 87.50 lakh from the Savar area on the capital's outskirts on Friday.
The arrestee was identified as Sohel Rana, one of the masterminds.
DB Police Chief Additional Commissioner Harun-or-Rashid said Sohel was arrested on Friday night in the Savar area by the Mirpur Division of the Detective Branch (DB). Tk 87.50 lakh was recovered from his possession.
He said Sohel once worked as a driver at Money Plant Link Limited. Seven dacoits have already submitted statements confessing their involvement in the robbery.
Harun said 12 people have so far been arrested in connection with the dacoity.
DB sources said they used the looted money for various purposes. However, it has been possible to recover the cash thanks to the arrest of the dacoits. Drives are going on to arrest several others involved in the dacoity. On March 9, robbers looted cash worth Tk 11 crore from a vehicle of Money Plant Ltd while it was going to refill money at the ATM of Dutch Bangla Bank in Savar, in the Turag area of Uttara in the capital.
Later, Alamgir Hossain, director of the Money Plant Link, filed a case against 10–12 unidentified people at Turag Police Station over the incident.
