A total of 47 destitute patients received eye surgery for free at Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute in the capital on Thursday.
The ophthalmic venture of Bashundhara Group, the country’s largest business conglomerate, in association with Vision Care Foundation and AKM Abu Taher Foundation arranged the surgery.
Hospital Founding Director Professor Dr Md Saleh Ahmed, Dr Rubina Akther and Dr Tasruba Shahnaz conducted the operation.
Of the patients, 27 are male and 20 female, all of whom hail from Barura upazila of Cumilla. They were selected for surgery at a daylong eye camp at Payalgacha Postgraduate College on January 20.
Hospital Manager Mohammad Ahsan Habib said the hospital has been providing cost-free treatment and operations to protect visions of poor ophthalmic patients across the country, adding that 1,950 have so far received surgery.
As many as 46 poverty-stricken patients received surgeries free of charge on February 9 while 55 patients on February 2 at the hospital.
