South Zone join Central Zone in BCL final

BCB South Zone joined BCB Central Zone in the final of the ongoing Bangladesh Cricket League 2022-23 after they beat the same opponents by 110 runs on the final day of the third and last round match at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogura on Tuesday.

Left-arm spinner Nasum played a big role in their reaching the BCL final as he claimed 5-94 in Central Zone second innings to help South Zone bowl their opponents all out for 197 runs on the final day.

Aich Mollah (59) was the only batter for Central Zone to reach the 50-run mark in the innings.

Earlier, on the day, South Zone, which resumed at 246-5, added 31 runs more before they were bowled out for 277 runs in their second innings and Central Zone were set for a target of 308 runs.

Musfik Hasan finished with 5-54 while another pacer Abu Hider claimed 4-71.

South Zone earlier scored 313 runs in their first innings before Central Zone made 283 runs in their first.

Nasum was named player of the match for taking eight wickets in the match while he also scored a brilliant unbeaten 44 runs in the first innings.

The final of the meet, which will be played between these two teams, will take place in Cox’s Bazar on March 4-7. Meanwhile, the other last-round match between Islami Bank East Zone and BCB North Zone ended in a draw at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar.

Resuming an overnight score of 138-3, Naeem Islam struck a brilliant unbeaten 107 off 249 balls – his second hundred in the match - while Tanzid Hasan and Aminul Islam Biplob made 90 and 62 runs respectively before North Zone declared their second innings at 419-8 on the final day.

Left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam took 3-128 for East Zone in the North Zone second innings.

Both the teams then agreed on a stalemate result and because of that East Zone batters didn’t need to come to the crease to bat in their second innings while chasing 395 runs.

East Zone earlier posted 403 runs in their first innings after North Zone declared their first innings at 378-9.

Naeem was adjudged player of the match for his two hundred (107 and 107 not out) in the match.
