Junior Open Tennis begins today

JWTS-Bangladesh Junior Open Tennis Competition, jointly organised by Bangladesh Tennis Federation and Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan and sponsored by Diamond World Ltd, will begin today at the Lieutenant Sheikh Jamal National Tennis Complex in Ramna.

BTF President and State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, MP will inaugurate the meet as the chief guest.

 A total of 81 junior tennis players from France, USA and hosts Bangladesh will compete into two categories boys and girls of three age-levels including U-12s, U-14s and U-16s in the competition featuring singles, doubles and mixed doubles events. Among the participants, 18 boys and 5 girls will compete in U-12s, 24 boys and 9 girls will compete in U-14s and 17 boys and 8 girls in U-16s.

The competition will be held in two phases -- the first phase will be held from February 20-26 at Ramna and the second phase from February 27 to March 5 at BKSP.

JWTS or Junior World Tennis Series mainly provide world rankings to the junior tennis players especially to three age levels U-12s, U-14s and U-16s.

One player from each category (boys and girls) of these three age levels will get wildcards for the upcoming JWTS Regional Masters Competition which mainly provides wildcards for the JWTS World Final scheduled to be held at Ferrer Tennis Academy in Spain.

These top six players will also get chances to join a two-week residential camp at Ferrer Tennis Academy as a part of the preparation for the upcoming ITF Junior (U-18) Competition this year. The details were disclosed in a press conference at BTF premises on Sunday.
