KHULNA: Police rescued a newborn baby from the Parbisnupur area under Kalia upazila in Narail district last night after 23 days of stealing from Khulna Medical College Hospital, reports BSS.
The baby was handed over to his mother Ranima Begum on Friday. Turab Ali, husband of Ranima, relatives and officials of Khulna Metropolitan Police, among others, were present.
Police personnel rescued the 23-day-old baby from their possession and arrested the couple.
The OC said the arrested couple bought the newborn baby from a woman with Taka 1.80 lakh from the capital on January 25 last as they have no child.
On January 24, Ranima Begum, a residence of Fakirhat upazila under Bagerhat gave birth to a baby boy at noon.
The baby went missing around 5 pm after Ranima handed over the baby to an unknown woman in front of KMCH as her husband and other relatives engaged in a fight with an ambulance driver centring ambulance fare, OC said.
But the woman fled away along with the baby from the spot.
