Bashundhara Kings’ Brazilian forward Dorielton Gomes Nascimento maintained the winning streak for the defending champions in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League 2022-23 after they beat Mohammedan Sporting Club by 1-0 goal in an away match at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla on Friday.
Mohammedan kept the hat-trick champions on the bay for 90+4th minute until Dorielton scored with a header, off a corner from his compatriot and captain Robson Robinho just a few seconds before the final whistle in the 90+5th minute.
Though Kings earned a hard-fought win against the traditional black and white, but came up with several allegations against refereeing after the match when their technical director Bayazid Alam Zubair Nipu was seen a direct red card.
Nipu told The Daily Sun after the match that he was simply punished by the match officials due to protesting their favoritism towards the home team.
“I was punished because I protested against bad refereeing during the match. Actually, we all protested from the dugout but the assistant referee accused me of using slang words towards the referee. We have been observing since the beginning the referees’ favouritism attitude towards the home side,” Nipu said.
“The opponents were trying to waste time during throw-ins, staging fake injury drama. Instead of warning their players, the referees showed our players cards which could impact our team in our next matches against Sheikh Jamal DC and Dhaka Abahani. I think everything was a part of the plan. The club will further decide if we will lodge any complaint against referees,” he added.
In the day’s other match, Chattogram Abahoni played a goalless draw with Fortis FC at the Shaheed Bir Sreshtha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.
After the matches, Kings consolidated the top spot in the 11-team points table with 24 points from eight wins. Fortis FC claimed up to fifth with eight points while Mohammedan remained with previous credit of seven points and Ctg Abahoni remained 10th with four points.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra will host Azampur Football Club Uttara in Bashundhara Sports Complex today at 03:15pm. Sheikh Russel, who tasted a fatal 1-3 goal defeat against Kings in their last match, will try to bounce back with a victory over Azampur in their home match.
