Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen has said Bangladesh is gaining geopolitical importance from global super powers due to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s balanced foreign policy.

“I must thank our honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for taking Bangladesh to a dignified position in the global community through her balanced foreign policy. Countries across the world are paying attention and giving importance to Bangladesh,” he said while talking to diplomatic correspondents at the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday.

Momen said Bangladesh is maintaining excellent relations with both global super powers, including the United States and China through its balanced foreign policy. “Undoubtedly it’s a very challenging task.”

Earlier, the Foreign Minister received newly appointed Foreign Minister of China Qin Gang, who made a stopover at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the early hours of Tuesday amidst visits by senior diplomats from the United States to Bangladesh.

On the other hand, US Senior Director for South Asia, National Security Council, Rear Admiral Eileen Laubacher, concluded her four-day tour to Bangladesh.

Asked about his meeting with the Chinese Foreign Minister at the airport, Momen said they had a very useful and fruitful discussion. He further said that China has expressed its willingness to remain engaged with Bangladesh in the development journey of the people of Bangladesh and want to work with as a partner.
