Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin on Tuesday said the govt has set a target of banning the use of hydraulic horns on vehicles to prevent sound pollution in the capital within the next two months.

“In today’s meeting, we have decided that hydraulic horns should be stopped first in Dhaka city within the next two months. The use of hydraulic horns is forbidden by law, there is no right to use them in our country,” he said.

The environment, forest and climate change minister said this at a press briefing titled “COP 27: Expectations and Gain” organised by the ministry at the Secretariat in the capital.

Shahab Uddin said “We have decided that the hydraulic horn will be eliminated by next December-January. Hopefully, with your (journalist) cooperation, we will be able to stop it.”

In response to a query, the minister said, “In this regard, we are holding meetings with those concerned with sound pollution in Dhaka, such as the drivers' association. We are also discussing with the students, conducting mobile courts.”
