BNP to reveal big plan in Dhaka rally

Popular News

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will reveal a big plan at a public rally in the capital to speed up their movement mainly for resignation of the Awami League-led government.

“We’ll start divisional rallies from Chattogram on Wednesday. Thereafter, our next course of action will be announced at a Dhaka rally on December 10,” BNP leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy told the Daily Sun.

He categorically said they want to hold programmes in a democratic way to realise their nine-point demands, including election under a caretaker government and permanent release of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.

BNP will organise a public rally on October 12 in Chattogram, October 15 in Mymensingh, October 22 in Khulna, October 29 in Rangpur, November 5 in Barishal, November 12 in Faridpur, November 19 in Sylhet, November 26 in Cumilla, December 3 in Rajshahi and December 10 in Dhaka.

The embattled party has planned to gather large numbers of leaders and activists and common people in the divisional rallies to rejuvenate its organisational activities for their movement.

Talking to the Daily Sun, Abdus Salam, convener of BNP’s Dhaka south city unit, said they have planned to hold a mammoth public rally in the capital on December 10.

“At the rally, the party will announce the next course of action to realise their demands,” he added.

“Mammoth rallies in divisional cities with huge presence of the countrymen will give a massage to this fascist government. A big change may come in the political situation before December 10,” BNP vice-chairman Shahjahan told the Daily Sun.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will preside over the public rally at Railway Polo ground in Chattogram city today while senior leaders will deliver their addresses.

The BNP standing committee has already discussed preparations of divisional rallies, proposals of divisional leaders made in recent meetings with the party senior leaders and their next course of action, meeting sources said.

The meeting resolution said the BNP standing committee has called the leaders and activists of all units of the party, its front and associate organisations to take all-out initiative and participate in their divisional rallies.

A senior leader wishing not to be named said the party will announce harsher movement programmes from the December 10 public rally in Dhaka.

“Programmes like long march, sit-ins and siege may be declared on December 10. The movement will turn into one-point movement gradually. Harsher programmes will come from the beginning of the next year,” he added.

The BNP is holding talks with other opposition parties to finalise an outline of their simultaneous movement. The movement outline also may be declared in December, party insiders said.

Mirza Fakhrul said they will also declare a movement outline soon to go for a simultaneous movement. “The only demand is that this government must go.”

The BNP has also been carrying out activities to draw attention of the foreign powers to put pressure on the government to realize the demands, the sources added.

BNP sources further said some crucial issues like resignation of the party’s lawmakers and return of Tarique Rahman from London are also under consideration of the party.
