Amit Habib remembered

The evening was different for the well-wishers of Amit Habib as they recalled excellences of the journalist veteran in news management and losses for the media due to his untimely death.

Although there was grief inside, the speakers recalled his legacy in introducing new trend of feature in newspaper during a discussion at Bishwa Sahitya Kendra in the capital on Friday evening.

Creative Dhaka Publications organised the commemorative meeting dedicated to Desh Rupantor founder editor Amit Habib who died recently at the age of 59.

Contribution of the newsroom master was highlighted to introduce something new to popularize news through his presence at Bhorer Kagoj, JaiJaiDin, Kaler Kantho and Desh Rupantor, the last workstation until death.

Journalists Munni Saha and Utpal Shubhra conducted the programme.

Historian Professor Syed Anwar Hossain termed Amit Habib as a ‘free-spirited’ person.

“Before I met him (Amit Habib), I had no idea about him. When I teach students in class, I assess a student in four categories. I found those four categories in Amit Habib. I had three-four meetings with him when I was editor of Daily Sun,” he said.

Gonoshasthaya Kendra Trustee Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury said he introduced with Amit Habib during his tenure at Bhorer Kagoj and learned more about him through media.

“You will keep him alive for yourself. There are many people in the world who   gives everything to others without doing anything for themselves. He was a man of that nature,” he said.

Kaler Kantho Editor Shahed Mohammad Ali expressed his feeling to work at the newspaper that was hit stand with excellence of Amit Habib.

Desh Rupanto Acting Editor Mostafa Mamun recalled the days with Amit Habib since introduction in 1995.

Creative Dhaka Publications Managing Director Abid-e-Azad in his speech  said a book will be published in memory of Amit Habib in October. Anyone can submit writings by September 15.

Late Amit Habib's brother Faizul Habib, photographer Akkas Mahmud, journalist Sumna Sharmin, Desh Rupantor joint news editor Jewel Mostafiz, photography editor Shahadat Parvez, journalists Mahbub Aziz, Mahbub Morshed, Ehsan Mahmud, Mosiur Rahman were also present on the occasion.
