Her husband’s extramarital affair blamed

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) said on Friday that Rezaul Karim Reza has confessed to killing his wife Jannatul Nayeem Sritika following a conjugal conflict over his extramarital affair.

Reza gave the confession during interrogation after he was arrested in Chattogram city on Thursday night.

Sritika, an MBBS doctor, was found slaughtered in Family Service Apartment Hotel in Panthapath area of the capital on Wednesday night.

Reza took his ‘wife’ Sritika to the hotel on Wednesday morning on the pretext of celebrating her birthday and then stabbed her with a knife before slitting her throat.

Reza, a senior executive at a private company, has also admitted that they developed affair after their meeting on social media in 2019 and got married secretly in 2020.  As their families were not informed about their marriage, they used to meet in different hotels in the capital.

As the conjugal conflict between Sritika and Reza grew, he planned to kill her, said Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director (legal and media wing) at RAB headquarters.

After killing Sritika, Reza left the hotel room, locking the door.

In another development, police arrested a youth on Thursday night on charges of killing his wife in Savar on the outskirts of the capital.

The arrestee was identified as Shadnam Sakib Hridoy, son of Zakaria Hossen of Savar Bank Colony area.

The deceased was identified as Samiya Akter, 25, daughter of Mizanur Rahman of Manikganj' Shingair area.

Kazi Mainul Islam, officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station said they recovered the body from Savar Enam Medical College Hospital around 8:00pm.

Hridoy was arrested on an allegation that he along with his parents suffocated Samiya to death.

Samiya's father, Mizanur Rahman, filed a case against Hridoy, his parents Zakaria Hossen and Jayeda Parvin.
